Brief description
The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) group participating in this project is an expert group in Plant Ecophysiology and Animal Ecotoxicology, with extensive experience in remediation projects in contaminated soils. This experience is related to the physical-chemical characterisation of soil, ecotoxicity assessment and the identification and selection of plant and animal species tolerant to contaminants. The group is working on the identification of the genetic, biochemical, cellular, tissue and physiological mechanisms of plant and animal tolerance to contaminants. The experience is backed by the participation in the previous PhytoSUDOE project, by the numerous publications of articles in international journals on bioindicators and bioremediation, phytoremediation and vermiremediation techniques. It also has the experience and infrastructures necessary for the management of a biobank of environmental specimens that are directly related to the subject matter of the project.
